About Us​

Small businesses are the backbone of the New Zealand economy with more than 70% of businesses being made up of 1-5 people. With the greatest of that percentage being 1-person businesses.

These business owners don’t have the time to figure out marketing strategies by themselves. Likewise, they don’t have the money to pay a full-scale marketing agency.

The Why Marketing focuses on brand awareness and we believe this is the first port of call for any marketing strategy. Within brand awareness you have your vision and mission – target markets need to know who you are and why you do it.

I use this analogy regularly: Marketing is like dating, you need to get to know someone before you ask them out on a date and it takes a couple of dates for the relationship to begin. Within that relationship you have key aspects that are important to maintaining that relationship, which we’ll discuss in our next post.

Think of a relationship you’ve been in. Initially you told the other person all about yourself, your history, your goals and whatever else you thought was good for them to know about you. This becomes your WHY.

Then during the relationship there are the little gifts to say ‘thank you’ or ‘I appreciate you’, and in business this is the same.

This is where our love of promotional items comes in, these are the flowers on the first date, the teddy bear on Valentine’s Day – a little something to say thank you for your support with each purchase (industry dependant of course). Then you have Corporate Gifts for Christmas or birthdays (industry dependant).

Part of this business relationship is consistent communication, done through as many channels as are relevant. What’s new in your industry, what have or are you working on.

All of these varying aspects make for a great base from which to start your marketing. How do I help? I take all of these aspects, mix them in with a few handy tools, tips and tricks, show you how they work and then help you create a strategy that works for you.

The result is, as a business our clients will have a foundational understanding of small business marketing and how brand awareness is achieved and maintained. Our clients will be able to curate their own content and have a strategy on how to market their business to their target market.

From this foundational knowledge, learning more advanced digital or traditional marketing techniques will be a lot easier and less daunting, and will be able to be implemented with greater effectiveness.
